Ibbagamuwa

Relaxing day – get ready for next few days

Bathalagoda Kayaking

The journey kicks off! Today’s all about settling in and getting your body ready for the adventures ahead.

Morning: There might be a case of travel lientery – let your body rest and recover. Hydrate with water or a light electrolyte drink, and consider bland foods like toast or crackers.

Afternoon: Dedicate this time to pure relaxation. Catch up on sleep, explore your accommodation, or simply unwind by the nature or with a good book.

Evening: As the sun starts to dip, get your first taste of Sri Lankan adventure with a peaceful kayaking session on the Bathalegoda tank in Ibbagamuwa. Glide through the tranquil waters, soaking in the natural beauty and calming your mind for the exciting days to come.

Day 02: Conquering Dolukanda (and maybe your tummy)Buckle up, because today’s about pushing your limits (well, maybe not too much).

Morning:  While travel lientery might still linger slightly, it shouldn’t stop you from enjoying the day’s adventure.  Embark on a hike to Dolukanda, taking things at a slower pace if needed. The fresh air and scenic views will surely invigorate your spirit.  Pack plenty of fluids and light snacks like bananas or energy bars for easy digestion during the hike.

Afternoon:  After conquering the trails, treat yourself to a delicious and authentic Sri Lankan lunch.  Rice and curry, with its various side dishes, offers a flavorful and filling option that’s gentle on the stomach.  Remember to mention your dietary restrictions to ensure a comfortable meal.

Evening (Optional):  If you’re feeling up for it, unwind with a pottery workshop in the evening.  Molding clay into beautiful creations is a therapeutic and rewarding experience, offering a unique souvenir and a chance to express yourself creatively.

Day 03

Sigiriya srilanka

Sigiriya

Sigiriya’s Majesty (Taking it Easy)

Brace yourself for a day of awe-inspiring wonder, but with a touch of relaxation. Today’s about witnessing the magnificent Sigiriya, an ancient rock fortress that will leave you breathless.

Location: Sigiriya, located in the Central Province of Sri Lanka, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  This colossal rock fortress rises from the surrounding plains, reaching a height of nearly 200 meters.  The historic site boasts ancient ruins, stunning frescoes, and breathtaking views.

Morning:  While your travel itinerary might be on the mend, it’s still wise to take things slow.  Opt for a private car or tuk-tuk ride to Sigiriya instead of a strenuous bus journey.  Explore the site at your own pace, prioritizing rest breaks in the shade and staying hydrated.

Afternoon:  After soaking in the historical significance of Sigiriya,  find a comfortable spot for a light lunch. Stick to simple, easily digestible foods like fruits, yogurt, or plain rice.

Evening (Optional):  For a truly unforgettable experience (and assuming your tummy troubles have subsided), consider an optional hot air balloon ride over Sigiriya at sunset.  Soaring above the clouds, witness the majestic Lion Rock bathed in the golden light of dusk – a memory that will stay with you forever.

Day 04

Dambulla Pidurangala

Dambulla

A Gentle Adventure through Nature (and Patience with your Stomach)

Today’s itinerary offers a beautiful blend of nature, culture, and wildlife encounters, all while keeping your tummy in mind.

Morning:  Start your day with a gentle climb to Pidurangala Rock, located near Sigiriya. This smaller rock offers stunning panoramic views of Sigiriya and the surrounding landscape, perfect for sunrise viewing. The climb is less strenuous than Sigiriya, making it a more manageable option.

Mid-morning:  Since strenuous activity might not be ideal, swap cycling for a scenic jeep ride through the surrounding countryside. Breathe in the fresh air and soak in the sights as you travel to the next destination.

Afternoon: Embark on a thrilling elephant safari in one of Sri Lanka’s national parks, like Kaudulla National Park or Minneriya National Park. Witness these majestic creatures roaming freely in their natural habitat from the safety and comfort of a jeep. This avoids strenuous activity while offering an unforgettable wildlife encounter.

Tips for Travel Itinerary: Throughout the day, prioritize staying hydrated with bottled water or a light electrolyte drink.

Pack easily digestible snacks like crackers, bananas, or dry fruits for quick energy boosts.

Inform your guide about your dietary restrictions to ensure restaurants can cater to your needs.

Rest whenever you feel the need, and don’t hesitate to adjust the itinerary based on your energy levels.

Digital Detox and Nature Rejuvenation in Redbana (Matale District)

Escape the hustle and bustle and embrace a digital detox in the hidden village of Redbana, nestled within Sri Lanka’s serene Matale District.  Surrounded by lush greenery and untouched landscapes, Redbana offers a chance to truly disconnect and reconnect with nature – and maybe even your stomach.

Off the Grid and Onto the Trails: Since cellular coverage is nonexistent in Redbana, consider this your opportunity for a complete social media break.  Without the constant digital pings, focus on the present moment and immerse yourself in the tranquility of the village.

Camping or Glamping: Your Choice

Redbana caters to different comfort levels.

Choose between a traditional camping experience under the starlit sky, or opt for a glamping setup with pre-furnished tents and amenities for a touch of luxury.

Whichever you choose, waking up to the sounds of nature and the fresh morning air will be a refreshing change.

Waterfall Wonders: While your body might still be recovering, fret not! Redbana offers gentle adventures suitable for anyone. Embark on a guided walk to hidden waterfalls cascading through the verdant hills. The sound of the water and the cool spray will be a welcome respite from the Sri Lankan heat, and the gentle hike will be manageable even with a slightly unsettled stomach.

Rest, Rejuvenate, Recover: These days are all about relaxation and letting your body heal completely.  Spend your time reading a book in a hammock strung between palm trees, take a refreshing dip in a natural pool, or simply gaze at the star-studded sky at night. The clean air, serenity, and delicious (but easy-to-digest) local cuisine will surely work wonders on your well-being.

Tips for Travel Itinerary: Continue prioritizing hydration with bottled water or a light electrolyte drink.

Stick to simple, home-cooked meals prepared with fresh local ingredients.

Inform your hosts about your dietary restrictions to ensure meals are gentle on your stomach.

Take short walks or engage in gentle yoga stretches to promote digestion.

Most importantly, listen to your body and rest whenever needed.

Day 07 & Day 08

rathna ella

Hasalaka

Finding Tranquility by the Paddy Fields in Hasalaka

Nestled amidst verdant hills and cascading waterfalls, Hasalaka, a village in the Central Province, offers the perfect setting to unwind and allow your body to fully recover. With its serene landscapes, friendly locals, and focus on simple living, Hasalaka promises a tranquil escape ideal for your current travel lientery.

Camping or Glamping by the Paddy Fields:

Choose between a traditional camping experience or a glamping setup, both offering stunning views of the sprawling paddy fields.  Waking up to the gentle chirping of birds and the breathtaking panorama of the emerald green fields is a guaranteed mood booster.

Gentle Waterfall Adventures:

While strenuous activities might still be off-limits, Hasalaka offers a delightful alternative – a visit to Rathna Ella, a cascading waterfall nestled within the lush greenery.  The easy walk to the falls will allow you to take in the beauty of the surrounding landscape at your own pace.  The cool mist from the cascading water and the symphony of sounds will be a refreshing experience.

Savoring Authentic Village Cuisine: Indulge in delicious and wholesome village meals prepared with fresh, local ingredients.  Since these dishes are typically less spicy and oil-based compared to some Sri Lankan fare, they’ll be easier on your digestive system.  Don’t hesitate to communicate your dietary needs to your hosts to ensure a comfortable dining experience.

Peace and Tranquility by the Paddy Fields: Spend your days reading a book under the shade of a coconut tree, take a relaxing stroll through the verdant paddy fields, or simply soak in the serenity of the rural surroundings. The fresh air, calming atmosphere, and delicious, yet gentle, village cuisine will surely aid your recovery.

Day 09 & Day 10

ella nine arch

Ella

Recharged and Ready for Adventure (with a Dose of Caution)

You should be feeling significantly better, ready to conquer some of Sri Lanka’s iconic adventures! However, it’s still wise to listen to your body and choose activities that won’t be too strenuous.

Morning Mini Adam’s Peak: This shorter and easier climb compared to its namesake, Adam’s Peak, offers stunning panoramic views of Ella and the surrounding countryside. The well-maintained path makes it a manageable hike even if you’re still recovering slightly.

Afternoon Nine Arches Bridge: Embark on a scenic train journey (hopefully your stomach can handle it!) to reach the iconic Nine Arches Bridge, a marvel of Sri Lankan engineering. Take photos and admire the beauty of this historical bridge nestled amidst lush greenery.

Optional (Listen to your body) Ziplining: If you’re feeling truly recovered and adventurous, consider a thrilling zipline experience through the hills. Soar through the air and enjoy breathtaking views – just be sure your stomach is completely settled before taking the plunge

Conquering Ella Rock (with a Scenic Bonus)

Your final day in Sri Lanka promises a breathtaking adventure, followed by a relaxing scenic ride.

Morning Ella Rock Hike –  Assuming you’re feeling fully recovered, today’s highlight is the challenging hike to Ella Rock. The panoramic views from the summit are truly awe-inspiring, making the climb worthwhile. However, if you’re still feeling a bit iffy, there’s no shame in opting for a shorter hike or exploring Ella town instead.

Afternoon Ravana Odyssey Bus Ride – Instead of the traditional cramped bus ride, consider a unique experience with Ravana Odyssey’s open-deck sightseeing bus. This allows you to enjoy breathtaking views of the Ella Gap, Ravana Falls, and the surrounding landscapes in comfort, while soaking in the fresh air.

Day 11

nuwara eliya horton plains

Nuwar Eliya

Nuwara Eliya’s Enchanting Charms and a Cascading Finale

Your Sri Lankan adventure concludes in the charming hill station of Nuwara Eliya. Today’s itinerary offers a beautiful natural wonder, but with a caveat for your travel lientery.

Morning/Afternoon: Bomaru Ella Waterfall: Nicknamed “The widest waterfall in Sri Lanka,” Bomaru Ella boasts a series of cascading falls surrounded by lush greenery. Reaching the falls involves a hike, which might be too strenuous if your stomach still feels off. Here’s the key: If you’re fully recovered, this is a stunning finale to your trip. However, prioritize your health and comfort. Consider exploring the charming town of Nuwara Eliya instead, visiting its colonial-era buildings, immersing yourself in the local markets, or simply relaxing at a cozy cafe.

Day 12

white water rafting kitulgala

Kithulgala

A Day of  Thrills in Kitulgala

Morning: White Water Rafting : If you’re feeling absolutely fantastic and your stomach is a distant memory, then white water rafting on the Kelani River is the ultimate adventure! This thrilling activity promises exciting rapids amidst stunning scenery. However, ensure you’re fully recovered before taking the plunge. Alternative (if rafting is not ideal):

Afternoon: Abseiling : Abseiling down a cascading waterfall is another thrilling option in Kitulgala. The cool water spray and the sense of accomplishment are truly rewarding. Here’s the important part: Abseiling requires physical exertion, so only attempt it if you’re 100% confident your stomach won’t object.

Explore Kitulgala’s Beauty: Take a scenic boat ride down the Kelani River, enjoying the lush landscapes and spotting local wildlife. This offers a relaxing yet enjoyable experience without the physical demands of rafting.
